Celebration #1: Crowning of a new Super Bowl Champ (the "Super"
part of the party)
After a one-year hiatus due to our hometown Green Bay Packers
making a busted run for the championship in 2008, the annual Super
Bowl geocaching get together is back! The major celebration for the
event will be to help cheer for the next Super Bowl champion. Watch
the game on a projection screen in a non-smoking environment. Will
the New York Giants live up to last year's heroics? Or will an
underdog, like the Miami Dolphins or Arizona Cardinals, stun
everyone in the nation? No matter which teams make it to Tampa, it
will be an exciting game to watch, as well as a super halftime
performance by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street
Band.
It's
Official! The matchup in Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa is:
The Arizona Cardinals VS
The Pittsburgh
Steelers
Celebration #2: Green & Gold Completes His Master's Degree!
(the "graduation" part of the party)
This year's Super Bowl get-together has an added bonus. The year
2008 was pretty eventful and intense (at least for me). A new
president was elected in a historical election, the economy turned
downward, Brett Favre retires and unretires, the Detroit Lions
don't win a game, and I started and finished my Master's Degree.
That's right! In one year, I gave up some of what I like to do most
to bury my nose in the books (or in this case on my monitor since I
completed my degree online) to complete my degree on the fast
track.
I gave up geocaching (except for a
couple of one day outings), gatherings with friends, geocaching,
road trips, geocaching, heck, I even gave up going to a Packers
game this year. Oh, and did I mention geocaching? Completing 33
credits from the end of January to Christmas in 2008 was certainly
no walk in the park, while holding a full-time job and a part-time
job on the side at the same time. Call me crazy.....I know I missed
out on loads of fun and free time, and put loads on extra stress on
myself, but looking back, I have no regrets with how I completed
this enormous task.
On that note, it's time for me to come out of hibernation and back
to reality. It's time to get back to geocaching and all of those
other things that provide a quality of life. Please join me in this
two-for-one celebration event....a celebration of my educational
achievement and a celebration of a new football
champion.
Event will begin right before the
Super Bowl at 4:30pm in the Greenfield City Hall Community Room
(lower level) and will go until the end of the game. Please
consider bringing a dish to pass. Mention in your "will attend" log
what you are planning on bringing and I will keep a running tab on
the event page. No alcohol please....this is a family-friendly
event. Also mention in your log about how many people will be in
your group.
Football squares are back for door prizes at the end of each
quarter, and the football helmet bingo game for the kids also makes
a return. New this year is a contest that will need 32 of our event
attendees to participate and is a mock NFL Draft type activity (no
deep football knowledge needed to participate, and all ages are
eligible). Curious at to what it is? You'll have to attend this
event to find out! There will also be a few temporary caches on the
grounds to be found in case the game is a blowout and you need
something to do to keep you sane, or for something quick to do
during commercials to get your caching fix. As with the last event,
come dressed in your favorite college or NFL team's attire to make
the event more festive.
Come one and come all! Hope to see you on February 1st.
