To that end, some of the questions, particularly those based on Indian pop culture, have been slightly modified and a synopsis, some links and a geochecker have been provided.

Synopsis
Our hero is a Mumbai orphan, who we'll refer to as Dip Stick because of the slimy coat he receives. He undergoes many hardships and tragedies but, aided by his pals - some blind, some hobbling on crutches - survives by outwitting the Keystone Cops, Fagin, The Ugly American tourists, The Godfather and Regis Philbin.
There are two other parallel threads in addition to the young colt's coming of age – one is of his uncanny success in India's version of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and the other is about his revelations to the Grand Inquisitor during a fraud investigation of how each correct answer was indelibly etched into his memory by a childhood trauma.
Awards
As of this writing, this great Indian movie has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards: Best Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score, and is leading the pack at the London Film Critics' Circle Awards with six nominations. It's the destiny of this crowd-pleaser to be a popular choice for Oscars as well. Added 1/11/09: The underdog "Slumdog" swept the four GGs for which it was nominated. Added 1/22/09: Ten Academy Award nominations. Added later still: Eight Oscars!
Lifelines
- Ask the Audience: On G, I suspect and hope most people would answer Cambridge. [They would be wrong.]
- 50-50: Squash Jiminy Cricket and Tendulkar in H, leaving Bradman and Hobbs, as in the movie.
- Phone a Friend? Okay, but not someone who's already solved the puzzle.
