Geocache Description:

A Cache hidden in an area that is full of History !

The Burg Schachenstein is a very impressive ruined castle, resting high up on top of the rocks above the village of “Thörl”
It can’t be missed as you drive from Kapfenberg towards Aflenz, it looks down on you as you turn around the corner as you enter the village.

The castle was built by the “Abt Johann Schachner in 1471.

There are 2 paths leading up the ruin, one is on the west side, a small winding path that is quiet steep in places, comes up from the back of the castle. The main path leads up from the south side and starts directly under the castle, you can find the entrance behind the back of the “Taverne Hofstatt am Thörl” .

There is amply parking on the left hand side of the road going towards Etmißl !
