Olney1: Sadly, it looks as if someone really doesn't want to leave this cache container in place. So we've decided to archive the listing. That way no-one else will have a fruitless journey to GZ.

Parking for this cache can be found just off the A509 (at N52° 7.328 W0° 42.099) north of the village of Sherington on the line of the old toll road to Olney and close to the site of the northern toll gate which operated from 1830 to 1878. Along the public footpath to the west is a small field known in medieval times as Goldhord Furlong where treasures from the village are believed to have been hidden to save them from the Danes who had laid waste to the land along the line of the Great Ouse to Bedford.
We are indebted to the Sherington Historical Society for their excellent website and maps (www.mkheritage.co.uk/shhs/intmap.htm) which have provided an extremely interesting insight into the diverse history of this village.
The cache is a medium sized clip lock container with plenty of space for swaps.
A short, easy walk along marked footpaths and bridle ways with views over rolling countryside. Alternative parking near the village of Filgrave at N52° 7.508 W0° 42.920 offers a slightly longer stroll.
