Geocache Description:

Small cache, Log only, byop. Accessible during daylight hours. Area is closed before and after storms.

In 1884, a creature that appeared to be a cross between a plesiosaur and a sea serpent was sighted in our little lake. Since then it has appeared at least once every decade.

Native Americans have claimed to have witnessed Elsie lurking on the waters. In 1932 Several swimmers were frightened off by… what turned out to be a prank, but 2 years later a family claimed to have seen a 100’ long monster with a tail 30’ long.

In 1967 a family out boating reported seeing the monster as it rolled by leaving dark humps in the water. In 1970 someone reportedly sited a 12’ long creature with the head of a dinosaur, and humps that came in and out of the water. Even three park official supposedly saw the creature surface. Finally, in 1992 reports of the monster surfaced again.

Although many claim to have seen Elsie, in 1954 the lake went completely dry, and, according to witnesses, there weren’t any beached sea serpents lying on the bottom. In the 1960’s the lake was refilled, and has been kept full ever since.

Those in the “Elsie Exists” camp say there are underground caves in the local mountains where Elsie hides.

Those in the “It’s a Hoax” camp believe that a rupture in the sulfur springs on the north shore of the lake can produce a big enough black bulge of mud, that could be mistake for a sea monster.

So while your looking for this cache, take a good look at our lake, and you decide…. But watch out for Elsie
