Geocache Description:

It's going to be the middle of summer soon and so it's time we had a local geocaching event. What better day than Valentine's Day - a chance to take your special person geo-caching with lots of other like minded people. Could anything be more romantic than that!!!

For those of you that have never attended an event before this is your chance to meet the cachers behind all those caches you have been finding. It's also a chance to pick the brains of some of the more experienced "old" timers about the art of finding and placing caches. There are also usually a few loose lips with regards to some of those puzzles you have been scratching your heads over.

So come one and come all out to Rabbit Island for a get together, a chin wag and a bbq tea (BYO). Mr KE will bring a gas bbq and will help with the cooking but feel free to also BYO bbq. Kick off at the above co-ords will be at 4pm.

But wait there's more! Prior to the event - at 2pm - a treasure hunt/car rally/FTF race will commence at a yet to be determined Stoke location. The start co-ordinates are S 41° 18.888 E 173° 14.200 which should put you under a shady tree at Greenmeadows Stoke. We suggest you park near here and meet us at 1.45pm - the geocache rally will commence at 2pm. You will not find anything at GZ earlier than 2pm that will give you a head-start. We suggest bringing a pen and a cell phone and your other usual geocaching gear, sunblock, rain jacket, snorkel, climbing gear, etc. (Just joking about the snorkel and climbing gear - they won't be required). Hopefully we will see many of you there and the remainder of people out at Rabbit Island for the event at 4pm.

The race will commence from there and you will make your way towards Rabbit Island taking approx 2 hours. The first to arrive with the required information collected along the way will receive an unactivated geo-coin as first prize and the title of Nelson's Summer Cache Race Champion. They will also get to be FTF on the new unknown location cache that will be published that day in conjunction with the event. Visitors from out of Nelson are also most welcome to come and try to grab this illustrious title.

You do not need to participate in the race in order to attend the event, you can just turn up at Rabbit Island at 4pm but you will miss half the fun.

If the day is wet - and lets be realistic these things happen when you plan things in advance - the race will still take place but we will return from Rabbit Island to a drier spot. Details will be published here if the need arises.

Please watchlist this cache page and also post your intention to attend the event. Could you also please indicate in your "Will Attend" log if you are keen on the race. It will be a bit of work to put it together so hopefully many of you will take part.
