This quick stop along State Highway 2 is a picturesque bait for
geocaching LoTR fans as it is along the route that connects caches
in
Helm's Deep, the
Anduin River and
Rivendell.
Isengard and a 'piece' of the
Rohan River are also not far from here.
The cache is located along the Hutt River Trail. From the
walking platform, you can see two spectacular perspective views of
the Hutt river at the point where it bends. We discovered this
scenic spot and think it would be nice site for a drive-by cache
and photos.
Nearby is a nice duckpond, playground and picnic area. Walking,
jogging, cycling, swimming, dog-walking and photo-taking are
amongst the many activities that can be enjoyed here.
Besides LoTR caches and film locations, there are also many
other caches in Upper Hutt that you may want to check out while
you’re in the area.
Parking
If you’re just after a quick grab and go, park just after the
traffic lights S 41° 06.738 E175° 05.725 or a few metres further up
at S 41° 06.702 E175° 05.791. If you want to enjoy a longer visit,
drive a short distant further north and turn left into Akaratawa
Road and to the end of Norbert Street. You’ll find the entry into
Te Haukaretu Park on the left with plenty of parking.
The Cache
The cache is a camo'ed 360ml clear plastic container containing a
log book and a few swaps. It is not over the edge of the walkway or
any hard to access location. Watch out for foot traffic on both
sides when retrieving. You may prefer to walk a few metres away
from GZ before opening the cache. Please
replace cache exactly as found.
