Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in the ruins of Menlo Castle, Galway, along the banks of the river Corrib. The castle is about 2-3 kilometres from Galway City.

Menlo (or Mionloch) Castle was home to the Blake family, one of the fourteen tribes of Galway. It is said to have been constructed in 1569 but was burned down in 1910. The skeleton of the castle still remains, occupying a particularly beautiful section of the Corrib river bank. The co-ordinates should lead you to within one metre of the cache. It should be fairly easy to find :-) If you hunt this cache at night you may meet some drinking teenagers (seems to be a popular spot!). Either them or some spooks... It's easiest to get to Menlo via the Dyke Road and onwards to Coolough Road. If you're driving, there's space to park at the gate to the castle. A short walk down the hill will bring you to the castle itself. This may be muddy, depending on the weather! BYOP! Bring a camera!
