About this cache: Welcome to this great Team Rod & Tod cache. This peaceful park, nestled in the middle of Somerset Center, has many great features...the bridges, made of cement, look like wooden bridges, there are fish in the eastern cement pool. The two cement "trees" are chimneys for the building in the hillside. Rumor has it that this area was once used by Al Capone while on his travels between Chicago & Detroit! Also, this park was recently listed as one of the most haunted parks in America...keep an eye out for the previous inhabitants!
Bring a picnic and the family, there are grills available on site, as well as a nice covered picnic area, a playground, disc golf course, tennis courts, and a baseball diamond. There are several other caches on grounds as well....happy hunting!!
I talked with the owners of this park a few times and am glad to see many improvements being made, a new drive, walkways and restorations of the buildings in the hillside are among the projects planned! The new and some restored bridges fit right in with the old and beautiful ones still in place, and I hear there might even be a bit of restoration in the planning for the MASSIVE bird hotel (it can't be considered a house, just way too big!
Just to the southwest of this area is the beautiful Somerset State Game Area...a 600+ acre rustic park mainly used for hunting, has the scenic Lake Lombard in the center. There is a great scenic trail which circles the large lake...this 4 mile trail takes you through many great geological features, the lakes have some great fishing...not easily accessible by boat though...sorry! MIS, Stagecoach Stop, Walter J. Hayes State Park, Hidden Lake Gardens, and Mystery Hill are just a few other attractions located in and around the beautiful Irish Hills to the east. Even U.S. 12 is historic...this road was once a main east-west stagecoach route, as well as the main smuggling route for some notorious gangster like Capone. Many nearby caches also await you!!
Come enjoy this great area, spend some time in the beautiful state of Michigan...we are glad you came!!
