Geocache Description:

Summit of Gibbet Hill

It's an Ammo Box

Hidden very close to the summit (272m) of Gibbet Hill.

There are fantastic views from here.

Criminals were hanged here and their bodies left to swing in clanking irons until they rotted. This area had a reputation for being haunted so in 1851, Sir William Erle of Bramshott Grange had a granite Celtic cross erected to try to dispel the fears of local residents.

There is several parking options at Hindhead including the National Trust Car park at N51 06.865 W 000 43.747
This car park has the National Trust Cafe, which is good for a cup of tea before or after finding the cache.

From Haslemere park at N51 06.256 W000 43.520 which is the top of Farnham Lane, this also provides a nice walk along a ridge to the cache with good views back down to Haslemere.
