Geocache Description:

Josh's Night Geocache hunt was inspired by GorgeHiker's "Night Beckons You" (GCXYMV) with a bit of a different twist. It employs an improved version of Josh's Flasher Circuit as its beacon. Print this page and take it with you along with your GPSr, flashlight, calculator and a pencil.

Josh has placed his beacon on a tree in the woods within sight of the posted coordinates for this cache*. The beacon will start flashing approximately 20 minutes after sunset and operate for 4 hours and then shut down for the night. (This is to conserve battery energy). Go to the posted coordinates, enter the woods a few feet and carefully scan the woods for the beacon. It flashes every 4 seconds with a Long and short pulse of white light. You may have to move back and forth a bit in case a tree is eclipsing your view. The beacon will appear to be a bit higher than all of the lights in the background. You should use limited flashlight brightness to keep eyes dark adapted and also to not attract attention. Of course one should use the flashlight to keep from tripping over something.

*SUMMER MODE Because all of the foliage the beacon may be obscured at the starting point. From the posted coordinates scan the woods with a flashlight(upward at a slight angle above the horizontal). You should see a white fire tack. Go to that tree and scan to the north you see a trail of tacks leading to a large tree with two tacks, one above the other about 2 inches apart. Standing next that tree you should scan the horizon for the flashing beacon. You may have to move back and forth sideways and up and down a bit to see past a tree or two,

Go to the location of the beacon and carefully measure its coordinates:
Beacon Latitude: N 42 _ _. _ _ _
Beacon Longitude: W 083 _ _._ _ _

Subtract 0.045 from the Beacon's Latitude minutes:
N 42 _ _._ _ _ -0.045 = N 42 _ _._ _ _

Subtract 0.034 to the Beacon's Longitude minutes:
W 083 _ _._ _ _ - 0.034 = W 083 _ _._ _ _

Use these coordinates to find the final stage. The cache is in a 4 x 5 x 2.5 inch black Lock & Lock Box. There is an orange fire tack about 3 feet above the ground near the cache.

Be careful and have fun!
