Geocache Description:

Cache is a small container hidden near, but not in or on, a log hut.

As mentioned on the sign in the carpark this infrastructure on Cabbage Tree Creek dates from 1912-1916 with very recent additions. Named in 1916 after the President of the Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (Not after the famous English soccer team). From the carpark at 27d 29.407m S 152d 44.728m E there is a steep rough foot track leading to the lake shore beyond the dam wall. From there, follow rough 4wd service tracks up and down steep ridges generally in a northerly direction. The return trip should be around 10 km more or less. Allow 1 to 2 hours each way. As of September 2009, walking access is now available to the northern side of the dam wall (and further along the lake). Best to avoid this walk on a hot day, and carry plenty of drinking water. Dave was caretaker at the lake when this hut was built sometime around the early 1960's as a shed to store tools for the work gang. Also some officials, and some friends were at times treated to a picnics at the hut, arriving by boat from the dam wall area (not walking). Dave always had a soft spot for this area, so say hi to him - he is with you in spirit.
