Geocache Description:

The Trans Pennine Trail is a route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders that links Hornsea on the North sea and Southport on the Irish sea. Passing through the Pennines, alongside rivers and canals the coast-to-coast Trail is 215 miles long.

The Trans Pennine Trail is mapped and signed all the way and is mainly traffic free. Easy gradients and surfaced paths make many sections suitable for families, gentle exercise and people using wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Arpley Meadows forms a green oasis between the industrial Bank Quay area to the north and east and the landfill site and sewage works to the west. The area is a beautiful stretch of meadow and grazing land on the old Mersey flood plain and is also full of wildlife.

The cache container is a 1 litre snap lock container with some swaps and space for a small or medium sized travel bug. The path should be accessible by wheelchairs (although there is a steep slope on the approach from the east), however the final few yards to the cache site are not suitable for wheelchairs.

Getting There
By car: Coordinates are given below for a lay-by on Eastford Road, a short walk from the cache. The road becomes private beyond the lay-by, so please do not park or drive beyond this point.
By public transport: The cache is not served by a bus route, but is a 30 minute walk from the bus and train stations. Walk down Slutchers Lane (N 53° 23.140 W 002° 36.031) from the town centre and join the footpath on the right hand side half way down the road, then cross the Mersey at the footbridge (N 53° 22.480 W 002° 36.267) that goes along the railway bridge.
