Geocache Description:

The cache is safely accessible from a public area and involves NO trespassing on motorway or railway. The terrain is urban and flat but the actual cache site may not be suitable for a wheelchair user. Stealth is required here.

The cache is on the site of the largely demolished Manors North railway station (Platform 1) and is a magnetic 35mm film container containing a logbook and pencil. Stealth is required as there may be muggles going about their business.

Manors North railway station was the stop between Jesmond and Newcastle Central on the old North Tyneside Loop line. It was built in 1909 and closed in 1978 to make way for the nearby Metro station (Manors). The dismantled line to Jesmond can be clearly seen north east of the cache site. This line was diverted underground to the Metro station in 1978 but is used only for transferring rolling stock; the journey to Jesmond now involves a change at Monument.

Manors North was eventually demolished in the 1980s and few traces remain except for parts of the platforms visible from the nearby Manors Multi-Storey Car Park, and a subway entrance on Trafalgar Street which once served both stations. The station clock tower was installed at the Marsden Rattler pub, South Shields (now the Tavistock restaurant).

Manors East, its sister station, was scaled down but is still in use in its basic, rebuilt form (Manors) for services between Newcastle and Morpeth.
