Blind houses are miniature lockups employed for the short term detention of miscreants. Although most could barely accommodate one person, often several detainees were locked up, possibly with a guard. There are over a hundred in England and have several names including round house, lockup or clink. They provided a place for the local constable to put drunks, vagrants, brawlers and disreputable women as well as those more serious offenders in transit to the county assizes. Windows are always absent, hence the name with light and ventilation coming only from tiny grilles. Most were free-standing, constructed of stone with heavy wooden nailed doors. The largest of the dome and finial type of Blind house, Trowbridge, was supposedly secure, but during the great riot of 1826, the roof was torn off. Although following the tradition of riots in Trowbridge, from as far back as 1738 when the local weavers destroyed the workshop and house of a local merchant after rumours he had reduced his prices, perhaps not so surprising.
The cache is a nano, so please bring a pen and initial only please. The terrain is ok for kids and wheel chairs but the cache is above head height so access to the cache may be problematic. Stealth is required as this is in a busy commercial area.
