Geocache Description:

The Pocket Park is just off the Jurassic Way between Woodford Halse and Eydon in the lovely rolling hills of southern Northants. Suggested parking is either at the pocket park( N 52 9.684 W 1.12.992) or Jurassic way (N52 9.616 W 1.12.992)

History
The railway cuttings were excavated over 100 years ago and used until 1966. Part of the site was sown originally as a hay meadow for the railway horses. Woodford Halse was then a very active rail junction, and many local people were employed there. After the lines were closed by Dr Beeching, Northamptonshire County Council acquired the site with a view to using the cuttings for the disposal of domestic waste, and permission for this was granted in 1969. In the 1980s when Northamptonshire County Council proceeded with its plans to use the site for landfill, a strong campaign to oppose this was mounted by local people. Their perseverance paid off and Northamptonshire County Council agreed that the site could become a Pocket Park. Since then the project has received a Local Agenda 21 Community Action award and has been proposed for Local Nature Reserve status.
