Way up to the Moor, is a small geocache located next to one of the footpaths that lead up to Holcombe Moor.
The footpath leads up from Moorbottom Road - a bridleway that curls around the edge of the moor. The footpath is steep, and gets steeper the further up you go. Height is gained quickly - though with a lot of effort. The footpath can be muddy and slippy, so please be careful. The view from the cache site encompasses Ramsbottom, Scout Moor, Knowl Hill, Oldham, Manchester and the Pennines in the distance.
The cache site is near to some fields where ponies / horses are kept, and there are also some houses nearby - so please pass with the least disruption.
You can gain access to Moorbottom Road from walking up from Ramsbottom, Holcombe or Holcombe Brook. You could also park at the car park on Lumb Carr Road.
Moorbottom Road is not suitable for cars or motorbikes - so please do not drive up it.
The cache site is located on the side of Holcombe Hill, and is in an exposed situation to the weather - so please go prepared for bad weather. Also due to the steepness of the terrain, and the potential for it being muddy and slippy please wear the correct footwear - such as walking boots.
The cache could be combined with others in the area - though please be careful if you are descending off the hill - due to the steepness of the footpath, also if ascending - you may find that you need to take your time - and occasionally use your hands on the way up.
