This cache is in a place which had some significance in the early days of European settlement in the area.
In the first years of the Port Phillip settlement a high priority was not surprisingly food, and the fertile soils of the Yarra Valley was an obvious target for this. The 1830's saw market gardens created on the flats at gz, and much of the food grown here went to supply the miners in the goldfields. The area became known as the “Garden of the Colony”.
However a number of major floods effectively wrecked fruit and vegetable farming and in the early 1900's it changed to cattle farming, which continued up until 1992. The rustic buildings here date from this latter period, and the area is now a public reserve.
There is more information on a sign beside gz if you would like to read it.
The cache is a moderately sized black container. It is easy to access.
