Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden near a concrete structure on the northern edge of the town of Sutter. The structure caught my eye due to the year "1937" etched into it.

In 1937 the zeppelin Hindenburg crashed upon landing in NJ, thus ending transatlantic travel by rigid airship. Amelia Earhart disappeared over the Pacific while attempting an around-the-world flight. GM introduced the first automatic transmission (in Oldsmobile). The Golden Gate Bridge was opened, as was the Lincoln Tunnel (under the Hudson River), which connected Manhattan with NJ. The first supermarket shopping cart was introduced, and new foods included Spam, Kraft macaroni and cheese, Ragut spaghetti sauce, and Krispy Kreme donuts.

In sports, War Admiral won the triple crown, Joe Louis became heavy weight boxing champ, and Byron Nelson won the Masters golf tournament. Sports figures born in 1937 include coaches Lou Holtz, Tom Osborne, and Barry Switzer. In baseball...Brooks Robinson, Orlando Cepeda, and Juan Marichal. Race car driver Richard Petty was born.

Literary births include Ray Bradbury and Joseph Wambaugh. The field of entertainment include Jack Nicholson, Anthony Hopkins, Jane Fonda, Warren Beatty, Dustin Hoffman, Vanessa Redgrave, George Carlin, Bill Cosby, and Tom Smothers. Other notables born in 1937 include Colin Powell, Peter Ueberroth, and Saddam Hussein.
