The Ulster Trophy was a car race run on the Ballyclare Circuit for three years: 1937, 1946 and 1947. It then moved to the Dundrod circuit, which is still in use today for Motor cycle racing in August. The Ballyclare circuit started on the Longshot Road to Lindsay’s Corner; then right towards Ballyclare and right onto the Ballyrobert Road. This became known as ‘Ballyclare Corner’ and from this point the cars travelled into Ballyrobert village, returning to the start of the race on the Longshot Road. The race course was a distance of 4miles 250 yards, was run over 38 laps of the course and averaged a speed of 55-60mph. Cars like the Morgan, MG, Alfa Romeo, Lagonda, Austin and Riley made this prestigious race a wonderful nostalgic reminder of our motoring history.

(Thanks to the Ulster Automobile Club for the information about the circuit)
