Geocache Description:

Located where two cemeteries meet. The terrain is a slight uphill in a wooded area with a few thorns. Parking is available at the Mud River Baptist Church.

This cache is the result of my looking at the world around me differently after starting my Geocaching adventures. I have been driving past this location on my way to work for almost 19 years and never noticed the wonderful cemeteries that run along the hillside. Take a look at the older graves to the east and the newer graves to the west.

2007 was a special year for the Mud River Baptist Church, celebrating its 200-year anniversary homecoming celebration in late August. The church was organized in 1807 by 20 charter members in Blue Sulphur Springs, VA—now Ona, WV. In 1842, a new church building was constructed with separate doors for the men and women, an elevated pulpit, and a slave gallery. It was remodeled to its present state in the 1880s. Civil War skirmishes in the area resulted in the takeover of the church building by Confederate troops in 1861; parishioners were forced to meet in their homes. The adjacent cemetery dates to the early days of the church and holds the graves of some of the charter members.

PilotJ and the Crew travel a lot and find it hard to watch over a cache full-time. We felt this was an excellent cache for sharing the responsibility.

This is an ammo box container with several items that a geocacher might need while on the hunt.

Congratulations to Wintz50 on FTF !!!
