UPDATE: 2/9/2009. Please see update under "Volunteers" below.

"Treasure Hunting With a Twist" is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park from noon to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2009 (Easter Weekend). This public event will feature a number of "treasure hunting" activities including geocaching, letterboxing, hidden-in-plain sight hunts, orienteering, scavenger hunts and more. A number of temporary geocaches, letterboxes and other items will be hidden throughout this beautiful 2273-acre park and will only be available the day of the event.

EXPERIENCED GEOCACHERS/LETTERBOXERS: Experienced geocachers and letterboxers will be able to pick up the coordinates and clues from the registration booth anytime between noon and 4 p.m., and may also choose to participate in some of the other activities.

FOR BEGINNERS:
Beginning "treasurer hunters" of all sorts will be given an introductory lesson at noon on the variety of activities available. You must bring your own GPS if you desire to go geocaching. Some compasses will be available for loan for those wishing to orienteer "the old-fashioned way" or to go letterboxing.

FOR CHILDREN / FAMILIES: There will be some simple, non-GPS-required hunts for small children and for families.

VOLUNTEERS: Because this event may draw beginners who are interested in geocaching but do not currently own GPS units, volunteers are needed who would be willing to guide a few of these "newbies" out on the trail to find a geocaches, including passing along geocaching etiquette. If interested, you must fill out a park volunteer application and pass a background check prior to the event. Volunteers are also needed to help hide and retrieve caches and other items for the event. Please contact the park at 573-449-7400 for details.

REGISTRATION: The event is free but you must call the park to register: 573-449-7400. Registration opens one month in advance of the date (starts March 11).
