Smithwick's Brewery (here today gone tomorrow) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Inishanier: Hi,

In response to your note I am archiving this cache as it cannot be maintained within the required maintenance period. It cannot remain disabled for extended periods especially not until the end of August as stated. I therefore have no other option than to archive the listing.

Many thanks,

Graham

Geocache Description:

Located in a small park across the river from the Smithwick's Brewery.

The Irish have been brewing beer on this site since the 14th century. Originally this was done by the monks of a Fransiscan Abbey, the ruins of which are still in the grounds. The brewery itself was founded in 1710 by John Smithwick and that currently makes it Ireland's oldest. It was purchased by Guinness in 1965.

However, in May 2008 Guinness announced that this historical brewery will be closed down, a travesty for Kilkenny and beer historians everywhere. So enjoy it while you can.
