Geocache Description:

** Permit Required ** A cache to provide incentive for you to get your 2009 NWCDC hiking permit.

From the NWCDC website: "The Newark-Pequannock Watershed is a 35,000 acre natural resource owned by the City of Newark. The Newark Watershed supplies the City of Newark with its water and sells water to the surrounding suburbs. The Watershed resource, from a land-use perspective, is managed by the Newark Watershed Conservation and Development Corporation (NWCDC). Part of the Watersheds physical make-up are large reservoirs and streams. More specifically, the Watershed has four reservoirs normally open to recreational boating and fishing. The average size reservoir is 388 acres and the average depth is 42 feet."

Many other local Watershed Authorities simply prohibit any public recreational use of their property whatsoever. The NWCDC however allows public access to their 35,000 acres and a charge a fee based on the type of activity. A hiking permit is $12, and in my humble opinion, is a tremendous value.

So after you pick up your permit, before jumping back into your vehicle, you can take a 1/3 mile hike, over the Echo Lake sluice and claim this smiley. Cache is an ammo box located in a crevice under a large rock, hidden by smaller stones. Please rehide so as to be concealed. The crevice faces the lake.
