We've all heard the term "third times a charm". That saying
comes from the belief that the third time something is attempted,
it is likely to be more successful than the previous two attempts.
Well, the North Louisiana Geocachers Association are hosting their
third event, which is promised to be bigger and better than the
last two. We are extending an open invitation for everyone to
attend, and partake in the fun, fellowship, and food.
This year's event will be held at the wonderful Lake D'Arbonne
State Park, 3628 Evergreen Rd., Farmerville, LA 71241. This
beautiful park in the wooded hills of Union Parish offers
campsites, cabins, fishing, boating, biking, tennis, playgrounds,
& other amenities. There are several hiking/biking trails, so
bring a bike if you want to. There are also several public fishing
piers, if you care to bring a pole--see link
Lake
D'arbonne State Park
Best of all, the park has 18 caches currently ready &
waiting to be discovered within it's boundaries, with several
others in the surrounding area. Three additional caches have been
submitted, hopefully to appear on April 3 or 4, for the FTF
aficionados.
We'll have a Friday evening/night cache expedition, as in years
past, for those who arrive early. Anyone who is interested can come
to the Visitors' Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday to join the group as
we get ready to head out. This is sure to be a blast, as LSUFan and
fishingmcman are famous (notorious?) for putting together a wild
night-caching adventure.
After much effort by Mdrider and LSUFan, we are proud to
announce that the wherigo cache is complete and ready for your
enjoyment! This is the first cache of its type in north LA, and the
second for the state. Check out the background story at "Lost Loot
of the Louisiana Leprechauns" GC1MC94. This page has a link for
downloading the cartridge for those who have a wherigo-compatible
device (a gps-enabled pocket pc or a Garmin Colorado/Oregon).
Plenty of devices will be available at the event, so all of us can
borrow one to try this exciting new experience!
We have special activities planned for the kids, too! They can
hunt for camouflage Easter eggs filled with candy and toys--and six
of the eggs have a certificate which entitles the finder to select
an Easter basket! There will be a craft table set up for them to
decorate treasure boxes. They'll have fun using paint, glitter,
shells, Mardi Gras beads, etc., to create their very own treasure
chest to take home as a memento of the event. Parents, be sure to
bring an old shirt to protect your child's clothing!
The listed coords are for Pavilion 2 (see map below), where the
festivities will officially begin at 10 A.M. We will be providing
burgers, hot dogs, chips, and drinks. Feel free to bring any
desserts or other items you may want to provide, There will be
several grills going, and we will be more than happy to cook/heat
anything you care to bring.
We are looking forward to seeing all of our old friends, as well
as making many more new ones. Please post if you can attend, so we
can make sure to provide enough for everyone. See you there.
We are dedicating this event to the memory of our friend,
Coolslaw/Steve, who dearly loved this park. Most of all of the
cache placements located here in the park are his. Rest in peace,
Steve.
