hobgoblinkiteflier: If I do replace the cache, it will be in a new place, so I am archiving this one. I will retrieve the geo-litter soon.

The cache is a 2 litre container hidden near the small Roman Fort
of Castle Greg situated in a clearing within Camilty Forest.
Parking is possible in front of a locked gate on the B7008 which
gives a 1.5* access to the cache. For a more adventurous approach
(terrain 3*) use the Forestry Commission carpark on the A70. From
here it is a strenuous hike through the woods to the cache (dodging
the boggy ground and fallen trees along the way).
Castle Greg is one of the best preserved examples of Roman
earthworks in Britain. The site is covered with moss and tussocky
grass but the outline of the fort and the entrance can be
seen.
Camilty Forest is run by the Forestry Commission and sits on the
edge of the Pentland Hills Regional Park. You may see Roe deer or
foxes in the woods. Birds which inhabit the woods include
Crossbills, Common Sandpiper, tits and Goldcrests. There are few
real paths in the forest, but the grassy strips between the trees
are easy to follow. The ground can be boggy in places. Sturdy,
waterproof walking boots are recommended.
From the carpark, walk along the side of the A70 (take care as the
traffic can be fast here) across two bridges (Shear Bridge and
Crosswood Bridge). At the end of the crash barrier, immediately
turn right and head up the slope and follow the grassy strip into
the forest.
Before setting off, be sure to mark the position of your car. A
separate compass might be a good idea too.
