Tunbridge Wells Walk 1 is a series of 7 ‘micro’ caches and one small cache spread over a circular walk of about 4 miles (or two hours approx.) from a central position in Tunbridge Wells on the Kent and Sussex border. The caches are made up of 7 traditional caches with clue letters and numbers that will lead you to the 8th cache. The walk is intended to be circular and the caches done in numerical order. However, they can be done individually and in any order if you wish. All the hides should be pretty easy, especially with the clues.
Most of the route is clearly marked but one or two paths are well hidden. It is suggested that you take a decent map with you in any case. The cache page descriptions will provide you with some direction but following the GPS signal to the next cache will usually be sufficient.
Dogs are allowed throughout but there is an open field for one stretch so they should be kept on a lead where appropriate. Unfortunately not all stiles are dog friendly.
There are a couple of busy roads to cross as well as a stretch of quiet road that requires you to walk a reasonable way along the road so please ensure that you take care and keep a close eye on children and dogs. The walk is not suitable for young children (in our opinion).
It can be very wet and muddy under foot so a good pair of walking boots or wellies may be required.
There is no pen or pencil in any of the caches so please bring your own
Tunbridge Wells Walk 1 - #8 Hotel
The cache is NOT at the published coordinates which are for The Spa Hotel.
You will find this cache at:
N 51 0B.(D-E) G (F+G)
E 000 1C.(A+D-C) C B
Follow the path until you reach the main Langton to Tunbridge Wells road and head back towards the start of the walk. Pass the Spa Hotel and note how spectacular the building is. It dates back to 1766. Originally built as a country mansion, the hotel first opened its doors as "The Bishops Down Spa Hotel", named after the Spa town of Tunbridge Wells, in 1880.
