A trip to the south west coast where you can watch the progress of the Project West Wind wind farm and visit some history.
This adventure will take you to the Makara Walkway. Opened in 1981 this walkway enables you to enjoy spectacular views, visit an ancient pa site of the Ngati Ira people, and World War II gun emplacements.
The information board says to allow 1 hour to the gun emplacements but a reasonably fit person will do this in 35-40 minutes. Pick your day to visit as the area is quite exposed, a light southerly is best. Children should be well supervised.
The cache is a 200ml snap top camo container with log book, pencil and small swaps, recommend taking your own pen as its a fairway back to the car if the pencil has gone missing.
