Dotty What? (Coromandel) Traditional Cache
Darby&Joan: Called to check on this one. Seems this area is compromised now with it going missing regularly. Thank you to all visitors over the years. Time to let someone else have the spot and perhaps a chance for us to have something to find next visit.

A quick easy camo micro to get you to look at the Northern End of the Beach.
The turnoff to Whangapoua is off Highway 25 from Coromandel Town on the way to Matarangi, Kuaotunu and Whitianga.
Whangapoua Beach is a small settlement 25mins south of Coromandel Town. A popular holiday destination with a good surf beach, facing north-east with a large harbour. Boat launching facilities and great fishing off the wharf for children. It has a general store (with liquor, petrol and LPG), toilets, playground, volunteer fire brigade, Tennis Court. The population swells over Christmas/New Year and then returns to a quieter place after that.
The northern end of the beach is the main nesting ground for Dotterels. Their nesting areas are roped off through the breeding season and care needs to be taken around this area.
The area here is called the William Mangakakia Lagoon Reserve. The lagoon is popular with young families for a safer swimming and kayaking.
Small craft can be launched from the beach here as well which helps them avoid going over the bar.
This is also the beginning of the walkway over the saddle to New Chums, which is another stunning white sand beach.
The Island offshore is called Pungapunga Is. Some more active souls have rowed/swam out there for a look.
The farm over the estuary was the site for a coca cola ad campaign some years back.
Swimming with care on the main beach – can be a strong undertow/rip. Please watch children water nearby.
