Canterbury Woods Park, intersection Braddock and Wakefield Chapel Roads
Just north of the intersection of Wakefield Chapel Road and Braddock Road, begin at Mary Karen Read's Memorial Bench (38 48' 46.5" N, 077 14' 06.5" W). From her memorial, walk along the stepping stones, and then turn right onto the paved connector path. Walk left at the gravel path T, and continue along the ribbon of green that protects our streams. From the Fairfax Water raised cap, count twenty paces along the narrow trail, stopping when you're aligned with the cedar on the right. The small letterbox is a green camouflage-taped, hopefully watertight, container. Please take the box back to Mary Read's bench to stamp in. "Hokies Remembered" is planted to keep the names of those lost fresh in our minds. While discussing planting this letterbox with the Read family, Mr. Read asked that a remembrance of Mary's good friend, Chris Morawetz (Mary Washington College) be placed as well. Thus, you'll also find the letterbox "The Empty Drum Stool" in his memory. Both boxes planted with the kind permission of the Read family. Please rehide the box UNDER the stones - when this creek floods, it seems to take everything with it. This is a letterbox cache, so please: - Do not take the site's signature stamps, or logs. - Do not leave any trading swag. - Do bring a stamp pad so you can stamp your log with the site's signature stamps.
