Kyneton Football Club
ย
The club's early history
seems to coincide with the beginnings of Australian Rules Football
around the period 1858 and the club can lay claim to being the
first Football Club formed in the country.
The earliest games where
played on a paddock that stretched 1.5km from the Showgrounds to
the Railway Station located at the end of Mollison
Street!
The Showground's oval
originated in the 1920's and the club joined the Bendigo Football
League in 1932.
They have won 5
premierships, the last in 1997.
I grew up in this town
and one of my enduring childhood memories was attending the games
at this oval. In that era (late 1960's and 70's) the club did not
enjoy much success but the fortunes of the mighty tigers were
followed closely by the town's folk and one of the highlights was
parking your car around the oval and tooting the horn for a local
goal. That happened all too infrequently for my liking during those
lean years.
You will not be able to
retrieve this cache while a football game is in progress, nor when
the annual agricultural show is in full swing or when the oval is
being used for other sporting activities such as little
Athletics.
However at most other
times just moderate stealth will be required but you will need to
keep an eye out on who can see you before retrieving the
cache.
The cache is a 1 litre
container, well hidden and please ensure it is just as well hidden
when you leave. It contains a few small swaps and a
logbook.
Please enjoy your visit
to the historic two storey Lewers Stand.
