Chuck Walla: Greetings from Geocaching.com!

Since you have not responded to my reviewer log about your cache, the cache has been archived.

Some time ago, I posted a note to your cache page requesting a response from you to post what you were planning to do with the cache on the page and to send me a note. I have no record of a response, and no response tells me that you are not planning on replacing or repairing this cache. If I am wrong with that assumption, please let me know promptly. I can always unarchive the cache for you if needed.

Sincerely,

Chuck Walla

Geocache Description:

The cache is a camo painted cookie tin with a log book, pencil and a few goodies. Please leave the pencil sharpener.

The cache is located just into the brush between a church yard and the mound itself. The church has been kind enough to allow us permission to park in their lot and walk through their property, so we ask that in finding the cache that you respect their services and do not search for it on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings , Wednesday evenings or any other time that it is obvious a church function is taking place. The cache is not on the mound itself and we ask in the interest of preserving the mound that you do not attempt to walk on it.

I grew up in the area calling this the Indian Mound and being told not to play on it, which of course we did anyway. I only recently discovered that it is called the Cavanaugh Mound, and that it was constructed in the period between 850 and 1450 AD when a great Native American trade center was located at the Spiro mound complex. Hard to believe that this ancient piece of pre-Columbus American history sits almost forgotten surrounded by a trailer park. I placed a short informational sheet about the history of the mound in the cache and the web site linked above can give you more information if you are interested .
