Geocache Description:

Undiscovered Naxos #1

The Church of Panagia Kera

Naxos is big. You have to rent a car, motorbike or bicycle if you plan on exploring the island, or have your own. Naxos is also truly blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Greece. Long stretches of golden sand and the most brilliant colors of blue sea you will ever see. But except the beaches Naxos has many other beautiful places to see.
So, I decide to make a new series of caches in Naxos Island and spot some unknown places to those who visit the island and want not only to visit the known and cosmopolitan parts of it.
This is the first one of this series. The cache will bring you in the area of Panagia Argokiliotissa church which lies about 2 km east of the village Koronos.
Argokoili is one of the biggest pilgrimage site of the island and feast every year on the first Friday after the Orthodox Easter.
To find the cache you have to visit this area and count the windows and the doors of the old church of Panagia Argokiliotissa (Not the new enormous one). The coordinates of this stage are : 37 07.117N, 25 33.738 E
The number of the windows is number A.
The number of the doors is number B.
After that take the dirty road that will guide you to the old byzantine church of Panagia Kera. There you will find the cache. The road is not very bad and easily you can go with a normal car, but if you have time and you like walking is a very nice walk for about 2.5 Km to go on foot. In your way you will pass through an old and maybe abandon village (Atsipapi) which has all his buldings and paths made by stones and offers a nice scenery. This is your second stage and you have to answer the following question : How many bells has the church of Agios Isidoros ?? This is number C.
The coordinates of this stage are : 37 06.813N, 25 33.781E
The final coordinates are : (A+C)*617698 North, 10137272/B East

We wish you good and pleasant geocaching in Naxos island.
