Legend Hunter: This one's gone again; I think it's time to archive it. It's had a good, long run. Thanks to all who found it over the years!

Another historic cache, in a surprising place to find history!
You won't find Fern Street on any modern maps. But if you look at old maps from 1869, you'll see it in this location.
Fern Street was once a small street running through this neighborhood. It held one house: The one-time home of Seymour Durell Ball, and his family. The Balls were prominent members of Lock Haven's society. Seymour was mayor of Lock Haven in 1883. His son, Dr. Francis P. Ball, helped found Lock Haven Hospital in 1898. And granddaughter Mary Ball Armstrong organzied the country's first Red Cross nurses' aide class at the outbreak of World War II.
The Balls owned a home along Fern Street, where they lived for several years. In the 1860s, Seymour purchased and remodeled a home at 362 East Water Street, and the family moved there. Today, this is the Heisey Museum, the site of another good cache: Finding Fort Reed.
Congratulations to the Stevensons for their FTF, and the Carels for a close second!
