~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This disused railway bridge now carries a popular footpath/cycleway
but used to carry a branch line from Alcester to Bearley.
The line was closed in 1917 and the track was removed to assist the
War effort.
The line reopened again in 1922-23 but the start of WW2 caused it
to be closed again in1939 but the track wasn't removed.
In 1941, the section between Bearley and Great Alne was reopened to
serve the newly relocated Maudslay Motor Company but the stretch to
Alcester was never reopened.
The entire branch line was officially closed in 1951.
Next to the bridge is an entrance to the River Arrow Local Nature
Reserve a pleasant landscape containing a mosaic of habitats
typical in lowland Britain, which are becoming increasingly rare.
Amongst the present flora and fauna are kingfishers and the locally
important small teasel.
