NOT AT THE POSTED
COORDINATES!!
Coords above mark the recommended parking area and starting
point for this mystery, multi-cache series of 3 caches (San
Dieguito River Park at Sunset Dr ). Note: Approaching from
the South via the new bike bridge will also be an option in the
near future!! For hikers, allow about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to complete
this approximately 3 mile round trip. The path is flat and easy,
but can be hot at times (bring water). A more efficient option
would be to navigate by bike.
WEEKDAY (am/pm) caching is encouraged, as this is a popular
weekend recreation area ("Muggle" potential is high).
Take a detour from the Old 395, and visit the "Mystery of
Lake Hodges"...The Thing? This series is a spin-off on the roadside
detour, "The Thing?" located between Benson and Wilcox, AZ. I
remember as a kid (on the many long, cross-country trips across the
desert with my parents), the excitement of the many colorful,
billboards lining the I-10, luring you to "The Thing?" "What is
it?" "Worth the stop!" "Mystery of the Desert," they would exhort!
By the third trip east, my parents finally gave in to my desire to
unravel the "mystery." "A tourist trap?" "Worth the hype?" Let
discovery await you!!
From the parking area, you will be required to visit the
first two traditional caches below, in order to obtain information
to complete the following mystery coordinates to "The Thing?" Don't
worry, it is an easy and reliable multi-cache!
N33 03. _ 11
W117 04. 8 _ 2
Both the STAGE ONE cache,
The Thing?...What it is? (GC1M4RB) and the STAGE TWO cache,
The Thing?...Worth the stop! (GC1M4TF) were log and
informational caches initially, but have room for small GCs and
TBs.
PLEASE RE-HIDE CACHES EXACTLY AS THEY WERE
FOUND...THANKS!!
IF YOU GRAB OR DROP OFF A TRAVEL BUG OR
GEOCOIN IN THIS CACHE, PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOG IT ONLINE AS SOON AS
POSSIBLE! FORGETTING TO DO THIS CAN CAUSE DISAPPOINTMENT AND
CONFUSION FOR OTHERS...THANKS!!
PLEASE DO NOT REVEAL WHAT "THE THING" IS
WHEN LOGGING THE FIND BELOW, TO KEEP IT A MYSTERY FOR FUTURE
CACHERS...THANKS!!
