Gnarly Green Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
A traditional cache on an undeveloped island with an easy uphill trek to about 175 feet above sea level.
This cache is located on Sears Island, in Searsport, and is part of a series of caches intended to show off this beautiful spot. The 900+ acre island lies in Penobscot Bay, and is attached to the mainland by a man made causeway. The hike around on the beach is about 5 miles (best done between high tides). A dirt road runs the 2 mile length of the island in a north-south direction. Motorized vehicles are not allowed except for utility workers. Park on the causeway, but don't block the gate. Wear blaze orange during hunting season in the fall. Terrain and conditions vary widely – plan carefully and use common sense.
This four season cache is our first, and is located about 1 mile from the causeway. Follow the dirt road by turning left about halfway up the hill on the paved road. The cache is in the woods about 100 feet off the dirt road. Look for a cammo taped peanut butter jar containing a log book and pencils, with a few swag items. Space is limited, but it also started out with a travel bug, a geocoin, and an FTF prize.
We hope you enjoy Sears Island as much as we do, and please tell us about your adventure in your log.
Congratulations parmachenee for FTF!! It was very nice to meet you, too!
