Geocache Description:

First Mega Geocaching Campout Event at Neys

This weekend Geocaching Event will be held at Neys Lunch & Campground, just outside of Neys Provincial Park (the former location of a World War II German Prisoner of War Camp).

The central meeting place for all activities will be at Neys Lunch & Campground. Camping is available in the region and we are encouraging geocachers to spend the weekend in the area for the various geocaching event activities, geocaching stories and geocaching experiences.

We are encouraging new and experienced geocachers (and even new persons wanting to learn more about geocaching) from the region and beyond to come out and enjoy a weekend of geocaching activities.

More details regarding the camping facilities, meals, campfires, prizes will be posted on the NorWest Ontario Geocachers website. (http://nwogeocachers.com/forum/index.php#2) Go to “Forums” – “Events and Outings” for more details. Check often for updates and/or changes to the activities.

Geocaching activities will include 1) “BINGO Anyone?”, 2) “Poker”, 3) “Stamping Fools!!”, 4) "Closest to the Pin", 5) "Night Cache" and 6) some new permanent geocaches.

Activities times and schedule will be also be posted on the NorWest Ontario Geocachers website in the “Forums” area. (http://nwogeocachers.com/forum/index.php#2)

Arrival should be Friday July 31, this will allow you to get settled and familiarize yourself with the area. A campfire is planned for Friday evening where Geocachers can get to know each other with some planned get to know you games. Receive your bag of information consisting of the games for the weekend complete with list of Co-ordinates, instructions, and goodies.

Saturday will be a day of geocaching in an effort to complete the games organized. Over 150 temporary geocaches have been placed for this event.

Saturday evening will be a pot luck supper with all participants followed by another campfire to share stories from the day. Sunday morning will start with a pancake breakfast hosted by Neys Lunch and Campground. This will be followed by more opportunities to finish your games.

Sunday evening will conclude with a campfire and prizes.

This being the long weekend, Monday can be a day of relaxation and packing up at your leisure.

After the event, take time to visit Ney's Provincial Park. This park was originally a German Prisoner of War Camp during World War II. Visit the visitor's centre in the park to find out more about the life at this prisoner of war camp.
