Island Views (Wellington) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TheCur8or: As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.
As the MEGA is this weekend I am archiving these now. Please remember:
If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Parking is just off State Highway One South of Paraparaumu at
parking co-ordinates given. Here, at approximately 14m elevation
follow the track for approximately 1 kilometre to an elevation of
about 180 metres.

Named the Mataihuka track that runs from the top of Panorama Drive to Waterfall Road. It is an area of 64 acres, which contains stands of endangered Kohekohe and many other native tree species.

This cache can been done quickly for those who like running or mountain biking uphill. Others can expect to take between 30 – 45 minutes each way.

On a good day, expect views of the Islands of Kapiti, Motungarara (Fishermans), Tahoramaurea (Browns), Tokomapuna (Aeroplane),the Marlborough Sounds of the South Island and in some places, Mana Island.
A short distance north from the cache site will give views along the Kapiti Coast towards Otaki.

Continuing north from the cache for about another 2 kms, the track forks (no signage) with the official track descending steeply down an unkempt gorse lined path to a 4X4 track which follows the eastern side of the railway line coming out onto Epiha Street behind the Paraparaumu Railway Station. Or, continuing along the top through a private farm, where you will also encounter gorse, and possibly mud holes, (even in the summer). Taking this route, you will end up on Panorama Drive in a new subdivision over looking Paraparaumu.

It is advisable to return back past the cairn to where you started the track. (At least it’s down hill).

Just for that little degree of difficulty, no hint or description of cache container is given, though there is room for small swaps. That said, it's still rated a 1.
