A well known waterhole for Alice Springs' locals.
This cache is located on the Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve, about 7 km north of town. 4WD access to the location is on at track near the 'Welcome to Alice Springs' sign, north of town. The track is at S23 (degrees) 39.236 E133 (deg.) 51.750. Track leads to the old Stuart Hwy, drive along disintegrating bitumen for about 2km and then follow the signs.
A 2WD access (4WD is still recommended - this track is a bit chopped up) exists further up the Stuart Hwy about 5km north of the Welcome to Alice sign. To access this track, look for the quarry turn off on the left and then directly opposite on the right (eastern side of Stuart Hwy) is a good gravel track that leads into the Telegraph Stn. Follow this south about 2km and you'll come to the turn off to Wigley's.
Wigley's is a series of waterholes, and is often the last remaining source of water for birds and animals in a long dry spell. Combine your caching with bird watching here and you won't be disappointed! You'll be unlucky not to see Euros or Black-footed Rock Wallabies and a cheeky dingo or two coming down for a drink.
There are trails and picnic tables here as well.
Enjoy this special place for Alice's locals.
NB (locals don't call Alice Springs 'the Alice' - only out of towners do).
