Barton's Bush

"Barton's Bush" - Ernest Hood 1917
Barton's Bush, in Trentham Memorial Park, is the largest remaining area of lowland mixed podocarp / broadleaf forest in the Hutt Valley of New Zealand. It was named after Richard Barton who settled in the area in 1841. With the surrounding land being cleared for farming and settling, it was his desire that this section of the native forest should remain whilst the city of Upper Hutt gradually took shape around it.
Barton's Bush is a representative stand of native forest that once covered the whole of the Hutt valley. Come for a walk through the depths of the forest and take a trip back through time, imagining what the early settlers had to deal with when taming this territory!
The Multi-Cache
The published co-ordinates will take you to an information board that describes the various walking tracks through the bush. Replace the "walk placeholders" below with the appropriate numbers indicating the duration of the various walks and their destinations and then go find the cache!
Due to the tree canopy overhead, you will experience significant GPS 'wander' - I put the current co-ordinates at +/-3m but YMMV. Use the hint to help out if you get stumped...
S 41 deg 07.(Loop Track return)(Loop Track return)6
E 175 deg 01.(Loop Track return)0(Holdsworth Ave - Hutt River Trail)
The paths through the forest are fenced off so you won't need to 'bush bash' to find the cache - The cache is located within 0.5m of the path so it is within reach. Note that walkers, runners and mountain bikers can appear at any time without warning so time your extraction / replacement carefully!
About the Cache
The small cache, a camo'd Berocca container, currently houses a logsheet only.
Logs listed as "Found" that do not match the log sheet will be removed.
Please let me know when the logsheet is nearing maintenance time and I will supply a new sheet.
When finished please make sure that the cache is replaced *exactly* as found, with appropriate camouflage applied so that it does't go MIA again!
