Geocache Description:

The Loch Leven Heritage Trail is a circular trail around Loch Leven for 21km with lots of places to join and/or stop for refreshments en route.

The emphasis is on wildlife and Loch Leven’s status as a national nature reserve. The loch’s water, islands and reed-fringed shores are internationally important for nesting ducks and over-wintering wildfowl, with more than 20,000 pink-footed geese using the area. Whatever time of year you visit, there are plenty of birds to see and the three hides along the route are ideal places to sit and watch their goings-on.

Mary’s Gate an old wrought iron gate with large ornate pillars sits on the northern edge of Kinross estate. It is named after Mary Queen of Scots, who was imprisoned in Loch Leven Castle.

Parking is available at Kirkgate Park or Burleigh Sands Car Park.
