The Loch Leven Heritage Trail runs around Loch Leven from Kinross to Vane Farm, in a clockwise direction for 13km
The emphasis is on wildlife and Loch Leven’s status as a national nature reserve. The loch’s water, islands and reed-fringed shores are internationally important for nesting ducks and over-wintering wildfowl, with more than 20,000 pink-footed geese using the area. Whatever time of year you visit, there are plenty of birds to see and the three hides along the route are ideal places to sit and watch their goings-on.
From here you have views over the loch to Loch Leven Castle – this late 14th or early 15th century tower was the setting for the most traumatic year in the life of Mary Queen of Scots.
Parking can be found at Kirkgate Park or Burleigh Sands
