Geocache Description:

This cache was placed in 2008 on a winter ski trip with the fireweed caches. Enjoy yet another corner of Alaska that reminds us why we endure what we do to live here!

Please be advised that there are at least three routes to get to this cache. Please be careful when you travel in the winter because EXTREME avalanche danger exists on the summer trail. I have seen a half mile long pile of snow and debris 10-20 feet deep at the bottom of the ridge.

If you follow the winter route, there is no avalanche danger.

This cache is designed to be a winter cache. Get out and enjoy it. It will be a tough cache to get when the snow goes away as the area is quite wet.

Focus on the black spruce in your search.

There are many swans that make this lake their year round home. There are salmon that enjoy it seasonally. There are bears that enjoy the salmon seasonally. There are humans that enjoy the the trout all year round. There are troopers that enjoy ticketing fisherman who don't follow posted regulations. Be careful...have fun, check out the wier and the nearby falls.

The falls are amazing if you haven't ever been there. It is the classic Alaska image of salmon jumping out of the water to climb over a scenic water fall.

If you have the time, continue on to upper Russian and enjoy the sleeping otter cache...It has been visited four times to date. Three of those times it has been by Ridgeseeker...

Kudos to him for enduring the ice to fix this one. He stood by and monitored the 3 four legged cachers we had with us keeping them out of mischeif while I fixed this cache. Now, break out those snowshoes!
