CACHE LOCATED AT N44°15.xxx
W88°25.xxx
Yup, you've seen them around. Near schools,
public bike racks and bus stops. Abandoned combination locks.
Sometimes they stand out like the forlorn and useless reminders of
a job failed or a combination forgotten. Other times you have to
wonder just who would elect to leave a lock there, of all
places?
To find this cache, visit the first Reference Point. There you will
find a lock and a method to convert numbers. Convert the original
3-digit decimal seconds (N1 and W1) from your listed cords to
generate 2 new numbers. We'll call them CN1 and CW1 (C=converted).
To find WP2 (N2 and W2), use the following formulae: CN1=CN2 and
CN1-CW1+56=W2
At WP2 you'll find another lock. Use it to determine the final
cords (N3 and W3) using these formulae: W2-(CN1-CW1)=CN3 and
CW2-CW1=CW3.
To unlock the final cache, apply the following formula: original
CW2+CW3=Tadah!
You are also encouraged to complete an
additional logging request by posting a picture of other abandoned
locks with their brand name (if you can make it out) and their
precise location via a Waypoint log. Any kind of abandoned lock
will do.
UPDATE 7.14.09 Numbers updated. Some
adjustment was necessary
UPDATE 9.1.09: Challenges removed from
this series. I'd like more cachers to attempt these caches and the
requirement was too constrictive. Please attempt the alternate
logging request outlines above.
UPDATE 5.14.10: Complete overhaul due to
missing locks. Should be a little easier now, from a distance
standpoint. Also, you do not need to go inside the fence. If
you're solves seem to take you there just ignore them and stay on
the outside.
UPDATE 7.20.10: Revised combination to fit the replaced
final.
UPDATE 8.10.10: Slight adjustment to lock combo.
