You're looking or a cammoed match container. Durachen is a ghost
town located near this spot. The exact location may be south west
of this spot according to reports of other known locations. The
exact location will be posted here when that information becomes
available.
It
first shows up on the digitized maps around
1872 and continues up to
1898. However in my scouting of the area I could not
conclude
it exact location. All of the older maps show the same
deviation
using Potwin and Burns as reference marks.
The map below was taken from the Digitized
maps library at WSU. It is a map dating to 1887.
Columbia is the first town in Butler county that appears on a map
dating to
1856. Later maps dating
from
1857 show Chelsea and El Dorado, with Chelsea having the larger
population. As you can see in this zoomed in view there were
a number of ghost towns dotting the map no longer on current
maps. The name above and coordinates take you to a spot near
the location on the map. No information about these towns
exists yet. I will post information as it comes
available.
