Geocache Description:

There are two cache locations here. When the building is attended, find a rather large, quilt-themed box in the front hallway with all sorts of nice swag provided by the occupants. When the building is not attended, find the camo prescription bottle beside the front walk.

The Bryan House is an historical home located in Rutledge, TN. The home was built in 1869 by a carpetbagger, Michael Goldman, lay abandoned for several years, before being purchased by Dr. L.C. Bryan in 1937. He lived in the house with his wife, Mary, for the rest of his life.

Bryan served as the town doctor for almost 67 years, before retiring in 1994 at the age of 93. He delivered thousands of babies during his long career, and his personal logbook records most of them. The logbook remains in the house today.

In 1936, because his patients had trouble getting in touch with him, he started a phone company. This paragraph ran in Time, May 28, 1945:

“In Rutledge, Tenn., Country Doctor L. C. Bryan last week received permission from the state utilities commission to install dial phones and enlarge the local telephone exchange (230 miles of line, 195 subscribers). Dr. Bryan has been managing Rutledge's telephone system since 1936. Before that, his patients had trouble getting him in a hurry.” (visit link)

Dr. Bryan was a Tennessee delegate to the 1940 Democratic National Convention (visit link)

Dr. Bryan died in 2003 at the age of 102. The home was sold by his children in 2004, was totally renovated, and now serves as a community center and offices for a local non-profit community organization called Clinch-Powell RC&D Council.

Look for the AQT Saw-toothed Star quilt square.
Also find the Little Dutch Girl quilt square on the building next door called Nana's Place.
