Geocache Description:

Medium screw-top plastic jar with camo-tape.

When we first placed the cache here in 2009 there was a lonely pole standing in a field of tall grass. An obvious point of attention. Attached to that pole was the remains of what may have been a small bird house at one time. Who knows? There really wasn't enough of it left to tell. At first we contemplated putting up a birdhouse cache but then thought better of it hoping the keepers of the original structure would return to put up a real bird house. Well that hasn't happened, Trees have sprouted up all around the original pole but the cache is still safe although a little trickier to get too....years and years of happy Geocachers have left a trail where you can still get to the cache clearly though you may not recognize the pole for the trees around it. Just prior to our putting our cache here the off-ramp from Hwy 31 for Water Tower Road had been completed. Water Tower road at that time was a road for only the most durable of off-road vehicles and its only purpose was access to fire roads and to the golf course maintenance area. Now of course much of Watertower Road has been improved and leads to the alternate entrance to Barefoot Resort. There are huge swaths of clear cutting and land developing in progress where many nearby geocaches have fallen victim to bulldozer. When we originally placed this cache we waved down one of the maintenance fellows from the golf course and asked if we could place a cache here, he said it was golf course property but the highway department had right of way so they couldn't do anything with it and he didn't see a problem. So far we have been safe. so fingers are crossed we stay that way.
