Geocache Description:

This is our third of seven caches around the New cut area of Woolston. It is called Two Swans as they seem to be around here on the Mersey each time we come for a walk. This one is an extra small micro but still bigger than a nano. As such there is no room for a pencil so please bring your own to sign the log. Thanks.

The Woolston New Cut was a canal opened on the 14 February 1821 and its purpose was to remove the loops in the Mersey in this area to allow boats easier passage. Paddington Lock was placed at its lower end and Woolston Lock at its upper end.
With the building of the Manchester Ship Canal it became disused. When you get to GZ you will see why this canal was cut as the river is extremely winding around here.
