I love Monmouth Battlefield State Park. Did you know it is
Manalapan's largest "open space" covering almost 3000 acres?
This is one of my favorite spots in this beautiful park. I do
not think (almost) anyone knows about this pretty scenic overlook
because it is far from the main parking lot and it is hidden in the
woods. This cache is an attempt to tell people about a pretty spot
and provide directions so they can enjoy it. I hope you like it! If
you park near the Old Tennent Church, it is not a long walk to the
cache. There is no bush-wacking required. Follow the trail in the
field along the woods edge to the geocache.
This cache is the starting point for Travel Bugs,
Bella
Vista and
A
Capella. Bella Vista's goal is to see beautiful views. A
Capella's goal is to be near live music. The lovely scenery and the
beautiful church bell sounds certainly meet both Travel Bugs'
goals.
If you are in the middle of the park, you can look all around
you and only see rolling hills filled with corn fields and fruit
orchards. At that moment you just would not believe that you are
standing in the
most crowded state in the country.
In the summer, there is a
reenactment of the "The Battle of Monmouth" that is a lot of
fun to see. If you have kids, they may be "recruited" to do drills
with wooden muskets.
